Dr. Kim is an active member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, who in March released their 17th annual report on cosmetic surgical and non-surgical procedures performed in the US in 2013.

Board-certified plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and otolaryngologists performed over 11 million aesthetic procedures, for a total of over $12 billion. $7 billion was spent on cosmetic surgeries, while $5 billion was spent on non-surgical procedures.

Over 90% of all aesthetic procedures were performed on women. The top 5 most common procedures for women were breast augmentation, liposuction, tummy tuck, breast lift, and eyelid surgery.

For men, the top 5 were liposuction, eyelid surgery, nose surgery, male breast reduction, and ear surgery.

Interestingly, in 2013 liposuction replaced breast augmentation as the most common surgical procedure.

Jack Fisher, MD, President of ASAPS commented that the numbers come as no surprise. He states that cosmetic procedures are increasing in popularity among the general public due to technological advances, less-invasive procedures, and greater accessibility.
