Making Botox injection

With over ten years of experience with Botox®, Chicago plastic surgeon Dr. John Kim is an expert in the use of this amazing cosmetic tool. Here he discusses various uses for Botox and its ever-increasing popularity in the United States.

In 2014, 6.7 million Botox procedures were performed in the U.S. alone. Up 6% from 2013, it’s clear that Botox is here to stay! While part of this growth is due to increasing popularity of Botox for its primary use as a wrinkle relaxer, an additional component of this growth is attributed to the growing use of Botox for off-label uses. There are many lesser-known uses for Botox, but the most common off-label uses treat excessive sweating, chronic migraine, and various muscle issues. As many of these off-label treatments were found quite by accident, it’s no surprise that the market for Botox is rapidly expanding.

The rise of Botox in the U.S. can also be attributed to its growing popularity as a preventative measure against fine lines and wrinkles before they even appear. While Botox is effective for wrinkles that have developed for some time, it is much easier to smooth younger lines or train muscles to not contract in ways that will eventually create wrinkles. I recommend starting Botox injections around your 30s in order to prevent the appearance of wrinkles down the line.
